Does Bialetti Rainbow make real espresso?

No.

Even though this type of coffee maker is often called an espresso maker, it does not make traditional espresso like an espresso machine.

When the water in the lower container is heated, pressure builds up, which pushes the water through the ground coffee and into the upper container.

The result is an intense and concentrated moka pot coffee, but the brewing takes place at a lower pressure than classic espresso.

Can Bialetti Rainbow be used on induction?

Not directly.

The Rainbow is made of aluminum and is therefore not directly compatible with induction hobs.

If you have an induction hob, you can use the Bialetti Induction Plate 13 cm between the induction field and the moka pot.

The induction plate transfers heat to the aluminum pot, allowing you to use the Rainbow on a compatible induction stove.

Which grind size should be used?

A medium-fine grind is a good starting point for a moka pot.

The coffee should be:

• finer than regular drip coffee
• coarser than coffee for a traditional espresso machine
• gritty rather than powdery fine

Fill the filter basket loosely and evenly with coffee.

Do not tamp the coffee.

If the brewing process is very slow or the coffee turns out bitter, try a slightly coarser grind.

If the result is weak, you can try a slightly finer grind.

A good coffee grinder makes it easier to adjust the grind size and repeat a good result.

How to use the Bialetti Rainbow

1. Fill the bottom container with water
Fill with water up to just below the safety valve.

2. Insert the filter basket
Place the filter basket in the bottom container.

3. Add coffee
Fill the filter basket loosely and evenly with medium-fine ground coffee.

Do not tamp the coffee.

4. Assemble the moka pot
Screw the upper and lower parts together securely.

Avoid using the handle as leverage when tightening or loosening the pot.

5. Place the Rainbow on the stove
Use low to medium heat.

On gas, the flame should be kept under the base and not reach up the sides.

6. Remove the pot from the heat
When the coffee has risen to the upper container, remove the pot from the heat.

Avoid letting it sit and sputter unnecessarily long.

Which coffee beans are suitable for a moka pot?

Medium-roasted coffee beans are a good starting point if you want a balance between sweetness, body, and the coffee's character.
