Stop coffee waste – good coffee at a lower price
Sometimes we have coffee left over that has been on the shelf a little longer than we want for our regular selection of freshly roasted coffee.
Instead of discarding the coffee, we offer it here at a lower price.
Stop coffee waste is therefore for you who want to make a good coffee purchase and at the same time help us use coffee that would otherwise risk going to waste.
Each individual item always displays the specific quantity, roast date, and other relevant information so you can see exactly what you are buying.
What is Stop coffee waste?
At Brændeholm Risteri, we roast coffee several times a week, and we normally aim to sell our coffee relatively close to the roasting date.
However, small leftovers can occur. This could be, for example, coffee where we have roasted slightly more than necessary, or where a smaller amount has been on the shelf longer than our normal freshly roasted assortment.
There is nothing necessarily wrong with the coffee, but we want to be clear that it does not have the same freshness as the coffees we normally sell as freshly roasted.
Therefore, it gets a new price and is placed here in Stop coffee waste.
How old is the coffee?
The roast date is stated on the individual Stop coffee waste product.
We do not want to hide the age of the coffee behind general descriptions. You should be able to see the roast date and quantity before you buy, and judge for yourself whether the offer suits you.
The selection therefore varies a lot. Sometimes there may be several batches on the page, while at other times the category may be empty.
This is entirely intentional – we do not produce extra coffee to fill a discount category.
Does the coffee taste different?
Coffee changes gradually after roasting.
The most volatile aromas develop and fade over time, and a coffee that has been stored for longer may therefore be experienced differently than the same coffee shortly after roasting.
How big the difference is depends on, among other things, the coffee bean, the roast degree, the storage, and the brewing method.
That is precisely why we sell these batches at a lower price rather than presenting them as our regular freshly roasted coffee.
If you want our normal selection, you can find our freshly roasted coffee beans here.
How much can I save?
The discount depends on the specific batch.
We determine the price based on, among other things, the age of the coffee, the quantity, and the individual leftover batch. Therefore, there is no fixed discount on all Stop coffee waste products.
The current original price and offer price are shown on the product page when a batch is for sale.
Which coffee can end up in Stop coffee waste?
The selection is not fixed.
There may, for example, appear:
-
Light-roasted coffee
-
Medium-roasted coffee
-
Dark-roasted coffee
-
Small leftover quantities
-
Larger leftover batches
depending on what we have left.
Therefore, you cannot count on a specific coffee coming back once a Stop coffee waste batch has been sold.
If you prefer a specific roast degree, you can also see our regular selection of light-roasted coffee beans, medium-roasted coffee beans, and dark-roasted coffee beans.
How to get the most out of the coffee
Brew the coffee the same way you would normally start with, and then adjust according to taste.
If the result, for example, seems flat or lacks intensity, you can try:
-
A slightly finer grind setting
-
A slightly larger amount of coffee
-
A longer extraction, where the brewing method allows it
Preferably only change one thing at a time. Then it becomes easier to assess which change improves the result.
If you need help with dosing, grind setting, or different brewing methods, you can proceed to our brewing guides.
Why do we sell the coffee instead of discarding it?
The short answer is that we think it makes more sense.
When coffee has already been purchased, roasted, and packed, we would rather be open about the fact that the batch has been stored for longer, lower the price, and give a customer the opportunity to use the coffee.
That is the whole idea behind Stop coffee waste.
You get the chance to buy coffee cheaper, and we reduce the amount of coffee we would otherwise potentially have to discard.
Stop coffee waste at Brændeholm Risteri
We roast our own coffee at Brændeholm Risteri near Faaborg on Funen.
Stop coffee waste has arisen as a practical part of our own coffee roastery: When a batch no longer fits into our regular freshly roasted selection, we would rather be transparent about the roast date and sell it cheaper than let the coffee go to waste.
Therefore, the selection can change quickly, and sometimes there will be no coffee available in the category at all.
Frequently asked questions about Stop coffee waste
What does Stop coffee waste mean?
It is coffee from our own assortment that has been on the shelf longer than desired for our regular freshly roasted selection. We provide the roast date and sell the batch cheaper instead of discarding it.
Is Stop coffee waste the same coffee as your regular coffee?
It may be coffee from the same assortment, but the batch has been on the shelf longer after roasting. Therefore, it is sold separately and at a reduced price.
How old is the coffee?
It varies from batch to batch. The specific roast date is stated on the product.
Why is the coffee cheaper?
Because it has been on the shelf longer than we normally want for our freshly roasted assortment. The price is therefore reduced for the specific leftover batch.
Can I choose between different roast degrees?
Only if the relevant batches are available. The assortment depends on what coffee we have left at that given time.
Will a sold-out Stop coffee waste product return?
Not necessarily. Many Stop coffee waste products are unique leftover batches, and once the specific quantity is sold, the batch may be gone permanently.
Why is the category sometimes empty?
Because we only create Stop coffee waste products when we actually have coffee left over. We do not roast coffee with the purpose of selling it as a leftover batch.
