Coffee tasting packs – try different coffee beans and find your favorite
A coffee tasting pack is a simple way to try several different coffee beans without having to buy a kilo of the same coffee.
At Brændeholm Risteri, we have put together our tasting packs with 4 different coffees of 250 grams each, so you get a total of 1 kg of coffee while having the opportunity to compare different origins, roasts, and flavor profiles.
You can choose between a tasting pack for espresso and a tasting pack for filter coffee, AeroPress, and French press.
If you would rather choose your coffee individually, you can see our entire selection of freshly roasted coffee and coffee beans.
Which coffee tasting pack should I choose?
The most important thing is the brewing method you usually use.
Tasting pack for espresso
If you primarily brew espresso, we recommend our tasting pack for espresso.
Here you get four different coffees of 250 grams each, which gives you the opportunity to experience how differently espresso can taste depending on the coffee bean, origin, and roast.
It is a good choice if you want to find out, for example, whether you prefer a classic, full-bodied espresso or a more fruity and nuanced style.
If you would subsequently like to continue with a specific coffee, you can also see our full selection of coffee beans for espresso.
Tasting pack for filter coffee, AeroPress, and French press
If you brew filter coffee, AeroPress, or French press coffee, you can choose our tasting pack for filter coffee, AeroPress, and French press.
The pack contains four different coffees of 250 grams each and is composed of both light- and medium-roasted coffee beans.
Here you get the opportunity to compare different flavor profiles and experience how the coffee's origin and roast degree are expressed in the cup.
The pack can be selected as whole coffee beans or ground for filter coffee, AeroPress, or French press.
Why choose 4 × 250 grams of coffee?
A tasting pack gives you the same total quantity as a kilo of coffee, but divided into four different varieties.
This has several advantages.
You can compare different coffees side by side, try new flavor profiles, and find the coffee beans you actually want to buy again.
250 grams is also enough for several brews of each coffee, so you don't have to judge a coffee based on a single cup.
The first brew can be used to get to know the coffee. Afterwards, you can adjust the grind size, dosage, or brewing time and see how the flavor changes.
How to find out which coffee you like best
When you try different coffee beans, it can be useful to think a little more systematically about the flavor.
You don't need to be able to describe coffee like a professional taster. Start with a few simple questions:
-
Is the coffee light or full-bodied?
-
Do you experience a lot or a little acidity?
-
Is the taste mostly fruity, sweet, nutty, or chocolatey?
-
How does the aftertaste feel?
-
Would you like to drink the same coffee again?
There is no correct answer. The purpose is to discover what you prefer yourself.
After trying a few different coffees, it often becomes easier to see a pattern in the roasts and flavor profiles you keep returning to.
Compare light-, medium-, and dark-roasted coffee
The degree of roast has an impact on the coffee's flavor profile.
Light-roasted coffee beans typically allow more room for fruitiness, acidity, and the coffee's original character.
Medium-roasted coffee beans often have a balanced combination of sweetness, body, and the coffee's individual character.
Dark-roasted coffee beans typically have a more pronounced roasted character, more body, and lower perceived acidity.
Tasting packs are therefore a practical way to begin understanding which type of coffee best suits your own taste.
The coffee's origin can make a big difference
Two coffees with the same degree of roast do not necessarily taste the same.
The coffee's origin, variety, growing conditions, and processing also have an impact on the flavor that develops in the finished cup.
Therefore, coffee from, for example, Brazil can provide a completely different experience than coffee from Ethiopia, Kenya, Colombia, or other coffee-producing regions.
When you try several coffee beans in a row, the differences often become easier to notice.
How to best compare the coffee beans
If you really want to find out which coffee you prefer, it is an advantage to keep the brewing fairly consistent from coffee to coffee.
For example, use:
-
The same brewing method
-
The same amount of coffee
-
The same amount of water
-
The same water temperature
-
The same brewing time
In this way, you mainly change the coffee bean itself and get a better basis for comparing the coffees.
A coffee scale makes it easier to keep the dosage consistent, and with your own coffee grinder, you can also adjust the grind size for each coffee.
If one coffee does not taste quite right on the first attempt, feel free to try again with a small change in grind size or brewing before making your final decision.
Find the right coffee for your brewing method
Different brewing methods can highlight different sides of the coffee.
Filter coffee and pour over
Filter coffee and pour over often provide a clean cup, where the coffee's various aromas and flavor nuances are easy to compare.
If you use, for example, a Hario V60 or Chemex, a tasting pack can be an interesting way to explore the differences between several coffees.
AeroPress
AeroPress offers great freedom to experiment with temperature, grind size, brewing time, and dosage.
This makes the brewer well-suited when you want to get to know a new coffee.
French press
A French press provides a fuller-bodied brew, where the metal filter allows more of the coffee's natural oils to remain in the cup.
If you need help with the brewing, you can also read our guide to better French press coffee.
Espresso
Espresso is concentrated and makes the differences between coffee beans very clear.
Here it may be necessary to adjust the grinder from coffee to coffee so that you get an appropriate extraction.

This makes the tasting pack relevant both for the coffee enthusiast who is already experimenting with brewing, and for the person who wants to find out which coffee beans he or she prefers.
