The Timemore Black Mirror Basic 3 is a compact coffee scale for both espresso and manual filter brewing. The Basic 3 combines precise weighing with three brewing modes, real-time flow rate, coffee-to-water ratio, and automatic timing.

Three modes for espresso and pour over

The Basic 3 has three different modes:

• Regular Mode – standard weighing and manual timer

• Pour-Over Mode – features for manual filter brewing

• Espresso Mode – automatic detection during espresso extraction

The modes are selected using the multi-function slider on the side.

In Espresso Mode, the scale tares automatically when the cup is placed on the platform. When the first drops hit the cup, the registration of time and weight begins.

In Pour-Over Mode, you can, among other things, track the flow rate and coffee-to-water ratio during brewing.

Precision across the entire measuring range

The Basic 3 has a measuring range from 0.2 to 2000 g.

Timemore specifies the following measurement deviation:

• 0.1 g from 0.2–500 g

• 1 g from 500–1000 g

• 3 g from 1000–2000 g

The low weight range is therefore suitable for precise dosing of coffee and espresso, while the total capacity of 2 kg provides room for serving carafes and larger pour over brews.

Real-time flow rate and coffee-to-water ratio

The Basic 3 can display the flow rate during brewing, allowing you to track how quickly the water is poured through the coffee.

EMI shielding

Timemore has equipped the Basic 3 with electromagnetic shielding, which is designed to reduce interference from magnetic tools and electronic equipment near the scale.

This is especially relevant in an espresso setup, where the scale might be placed close to an espresso machine, magnetic dosing funnels, and other barista equipment.

Reversible silicone mat

The included silicone mat protects the scale's platform against heat and spills.

The mat can be flipped, and the underside has a shape that can support a portafilter during dosing and weighing.

The Basic 3 has a built-in 1600 mAh battery.
