Produktbeskrivelse

Ethiopia Yirgacheffe – floral and aromatic light roast coffee

Ethiopia Yirgacheffe is a coffee for those who want to experience a more floral, fruity, and aromatic side of coffee.

At Brændeholm Risteri, we choose a light roast profile for this Yirgacheffe because we want to give the coffee's own character as much space as possible. In our experience, the floral aromas stand out particularly clearly in the light roast, while the roasting character is kept more in the background.

The tasting notes are apricot, plum, milk chocolate, and raisins. This combination results in a coffee with both fruitiness and sweeter nuances, while the floral character helps give the cup a light and aromatic expression.

The supplier's profile describes Yirgacheffe as a coffee with a complex and varied flavor, where floral and fruity characteristics play a central role. This aligns well with the direction we strive to maintain through our light roasting.

If you want to read more about why some coffees are roasted lighter than others, you can view our page on light, medium, and dark roast profiles.

Why do we roast Yirgacheffe light?

The roast level has a significant impact on which sides of a coffee become most prominent in the cup.

For this Yirgacheffe, we use a light roast profile because we want to preserve more of the coffee's original aroma and fruity character rather than letting the flavor from the roasting itself dominate.

In the light version, we particularly experience:

  • More floral aroma
  • Clearer fruitiness
  • A fresher expression
  • More focus on the coffee's origin character
  • Less dominant roast flavor

This makes it particularly interesting if you enjoy coffee where the difference between various origins can actually be tasted.

If you want to better understand the difference between light and medium roast, you can also compare it with our Ethiopia Yirgacheffe – medium roast, which we find to be softer and more balanced.

Which brewing methods suit light-roasted Yirgacheffe?

A light and floral coffee like this is particularly interesting in brewing methods where aroma and fruity nuances are allowed to stand out clearly.

Hario V60

Hario V60 is an obvious choice if you want to work with the coffee's more floral and fruity sides. The paper filter typically provides a clean cup, where the differences between individual tasting nuances become easier to experience.

You can use our guide to better coffee with a Hario V60 as a starting point for dosage, grind size, and brew time.

Filter coffee

Yirgacheffe also works very well as filter coffee in a standard coffee maker. Here you get a clean and aromatic cup, without the brewing needing to be complicated.

If you want to work more systematically with dosage and grind size, you can see our guide to better filter coffee on a coffee machine.

AeroPress

In an AeroPress, you can easily experiment with water temperature, grind size, and brew time, thereby influencing whether the coffee is perceived as more floral, fruity, or full-bodied.

Find a concrete starting point in our guide to better coffee with an AeroPress.

Chemex

Chemex is also interesting for this coffee, because the clean, paper-filtered brew can highlight aromatic and fruity qualities.

If you prefer a clear and clean cup with very little sediment, Chemex is an obvious alternative to the V60.

Light or medium-roasted Yirgacheffe?

We offer Yirgacheffe in both light and medium-roasted versions because the roast significantly changes the coffee's expression.

Choose the light roast if you are looking for:

  • Floral aroma
  • More freshness
  • Clearer fruitiness
  • More origin character
  • A lighter and more aromatic coffee expression

We find the medium-roasted version to be softer and more balanced, where the freshness and fruity nuances receive more counterplay from sweetness and body.

If that sounds more like your taste, you can choose Ethiopia Yirgacheffe – medium roast.

Whole coffee beans or ground coffee

Ethiopia Yirgacheffe is available in 250 g, 500 g, and 1,000 g.

If you have a coffee grinder, we recommend choosing whole coffee beans and grinding as close to brewing as possible. This provides both a better opportunity to preserve the aroma and to adjust the grind size to the brewing method you are using.

If you do not have the possibility to grind the coffee yourself, you can choose from the available grind sizes on the product page.

Light roast at Brændeholm Risteri on Funen

Ethiopia Yirgacheffe is roasted at Brændeholm Risteri on Funen.

With the light roast profile, we try to give the most space possible to the coffee's floral, fruity, and aromatic sides. We want the character of the raw coffee to still be clear in the finished cup, rather than the roast becoming the dominant flavor impression.

If you enjoy coffee with a more aromatic and origin-focused expression, you can explore our entire selection of light-roasted coffee beans.
