When the water in the lower chamber is heated, pressure builds up, which forces the water through the ground coffee and into the upper chamber.

The result is an intense and concentrated moka pot coffee, but the brewing takes place at a lower pressure than classic espresso.

Can Bialetti Rainbow be used on induction?

Not directly.

The Rainbow is made of aluminum and is therefore not inherently compatible with induction hobs.

If you have an induction stove, you can use the Bialetti Induction Plate 13 cm between the hob and the Rainbow.

The induction plate is designed for Bialetti coffee makers up to 6 cups that are not induction-compatible themselves.

What grind size should be used?

A medium-fine grind is a good starting point for a moka pot.

The coffee should be:

• finer than regular filter coffee

• coarser than coffee for a traditional espresso machine

• gritty rather than powder-fine

Fill the filter funnel evenly with coffee.

The coffee should not be tamped.

If the coffee runs through very slowly or tastes bitter, you can try a slightly coarser grind.

If the result is thin, you can try a slightly finer one.

A good coffee grinder makes it easier to adjust the grind size and repeat a good result.

How to use Bialetti Rainbow

1. Fill the bottom chamber with water
Fill with water to just below the safety valve.

2. Insert the filter funnel
Place the filter funnel into the bottom chamber.

3. Add coffee
Fill the funnel evenly with medium-fine ground coffee.

The coffee should not be tamped.

4. Screw the pot together
Screw the top and bottom parts firmly together.

Avoid using the handle as leverage when tightening or loosening the pot.

5. Place Rainbow on the stove
Use low to medium heat.

On gas, the flame must be kept under the base and must not creep up the sides of the pot.

If you have induction, use the Bialetti Induction Plate 13 cm between the induction field and the pot.

6. Remove the pot from the heat
When the coffee has moved into the upper chamber, remove the Rainbow from the heat.

Avoid letting it sputter unnecessarily for too long.

Which coffee beans are suitable for a moka pot?

You can use different roast levels depending on your preference.

Medium-roasted coffee beans are a good starting point if you want a balance between sweetness, body, and the character of the coffee.

If you prefer a stronger and more classic flavor profile, you can try dark-roasted coffee beans.

You can also experiment with lighter roasts if you prefer more acidity and fruitiness.
