Optimize your coffee experience with AeroPress: A guide from Brændeholm Risteri
Here at Brændeholm Risteri, we are passionate about good coffee, and we know that the path to the perfect cup often lies in the choice of brewing method. AeroPress has become incredibly popular, and for good reason. This compact and versatile coffee maker is known for producing a clean, smooth, and flavorful cup of coffee, whether you are at home, on the go, or need a quick solution at the office. We carry a wide range of coffee equipment, including, of course, the popular AeroPress, which we can warmly recommend to both beginners and experienced coffee enthusiasts.
Brændeholm Risteri is located on Funen, but we deliver freshly roasted coffee and equipment to all of Denmark. We place great value on quality and freshness, as we roast our coffee in small batches to ensure the optimal taste experience. With an AeroPress, you get a brewing method that really lets our carefully selected coffee beans come into their own.
What is an AeroPress, and why is it so popular?
The AeroPress is a manual coffee maker that was invented by Alan Adler – also known for his frisbees – in 2005. It consists of a cylindrical brewing chamber where the grounds are pressed through a filter using a plunger. This simple yet ingenious design has made the AeroPress a favorite among coffee lovers all over the world.
Its popularity is due to several factors:
-
Outstanding taste: The AeroPress brews coffee that is often described as smooth, clean, and without bitterness. The filtration process is very effective, and the short contact time between water and coffee reduces the extraction of unwanted bitter compounds.
-
Versatility: With an AeroPress, you can experiment with countless recipes. You can adjust water temperature, grind size, brew time, and agitation to achieve exactly the taste you want. It can brew everything from a concentrated "espresso-like" shot to a full-bodied filter coffee.
-
Easy to use and clean: The intuitive design makes the AeroPress incredibly easy to operate. After use, the coffee puck and filter are easily pushed out, and the few parts are quickly rinsed clean.
-
Portable and robust: Made from durable plastic, the AeroPress is perfect for travel, camping, or the office. It takes up minimal space and can withstand being transported. It is also available in a premium version with a construction of metal and glass.
With us, you will find both freshly roasted coffee beans and green coffee beans, which are ideal for use in your AeroPress. Try it yourself and experience the difference.
The best coffee for your AeroPress
The choice of coffee beans is crucial for the final taste experience, especially with a versatile brewer like the AeroPress. At Brændeholm Risteri, we offer a wide range of freshly roasted coffee that fits perfectly with the AeroPress.
Choosing a roast profile for AeroPress
An AeroPress is great at highlighting the flavor nuances of the beans, and you can experiment with different roast profiles:
-
Light-roasted coffee beans: Highlight complexity, acidity, and fruity notes. Perfect if you prefer a fresh and lively cup of coffee with plenty of character. Our light-roasted beans are an obvious choice.
-
Medium-roasted coffee beans: Provide a well-balanced cup with sweetness, rounded acidity, and good body. Many find this roast profile ideal for the AeroPress, as it provides a broad flavor profile. See our selection of medium-roasted coffee.
-
Dark-roasted coffee beans: If you are looking for a stronger coffee with less acidity and more bitterness, as well as chocolate and nutty notes, dark-roasted beans are a good bet. The AeroPress can still deliver a smooth cup, even with dark-roasted beans, thanks to the effective filtration. Find our dark-roasted favorites.
We always roast in small batches, so you are guaranteed freshness when you order coffee from us. We deliver directly to your door throughout Denmark, and you get free shipping on purchases over 499 DKK.
How to brew the perfect cup of coffee with your AeroPress
With an AeroPress, there are endless possibilities for brewing coffee, depending on personal preference. We have created a more in-depth brewing guide for AeroPress here, but below you get a quick introduction to two popular methods:
The traditional AeroPress method
This is the most common method and is simple to master:
-
Heat water to your preferred temperature (typically 80-95°C depending on the beans).
-
Place a paper filter in the filter cap and screw it onto the bottom of your AeroPress. Place the AeroPress directly on your coffee cup.
-
Add the desired amount of freshly ground coffee beans (medium-fine grind recommended – between espresso grind and filter coffee grind). A good start is 15-18 grams of coffee to 240 ml of water.
-
Slowly pour water over the coffee, and ensure all the coffee grounds are saturated.
-
Stir gently for about 10 seconds (or longer/shorter, depending on your desired taste).
- Wait 30-60 seconds.
-
Press the plunger down slowly with even pressure for 20-30 seconds. Stop pressing when you hear a hissing sound.
-
Your AeroPress coffee is now ready to enjoy! For a longer drinking experience, you can dilute it with hot water or milk.
The inverted AeroPress method
The inverted method prevents the coffee from dripping into the cup while it steeps, which gives more control over the steeping time:
-
Insert the plunger into the AeroPress so it stands stably on the table with the opening facing up.
-
Add freshly ground coffee beans.
-
Pour hot water over the coffee.
-
Stir and let the coffee steep for the desired time.
-
Attach the filter cap with a wet filter to the AeroPress and screw it on tight.
-
Turn the AeroPress over quickly and place it on your cup.
-
Press the plunger down slowly, as with the traditional method.
Regardless of which method you choose, we encourage you to experiment. The beauty of the AeroPress lies in its ability to give you full control over the brewing process. Remember that freshly ground coffee always gives the best result, and we offer a selection of coffee grinders, both electric and manual, that can help you with this. Although we are located on Funen, we ship to the whole country with fast delivery.
Accessories for your AeroPress and general coffee equipment
To achieve the very best coffee experience with your AeroPress, it can be a good idea to invest in some additional equipment. At Brændeholm Risteri, we have everything you need.
Key equipment for every AeroPress user
-
Coffee grinder: A good grinder is essential for ensuring a consistent and fresh grind of your coffee beans. We offer both hand grinders and electric grinders suitable for the purpose. A consistent grind is important to ensure even extraction, which is the be-all and end-all of good AeroPress coffee.
-
Scale with timer: A precise coffee scale is an indispensable tool for keeping track of the dosage of coffee and water, which provides consistent results. Our Timemore Black Mirror coffee scales are popular choices.
-
Kettle: A kettle with temperature control allows you to heat the water to just the right temperature, which is crucial for avoiding over- or under-extracting the coffee in your AeroPress. See our selection of kettles.
-
Extra filters: Although the AeroPress comes with filters, it is always good to have extra on hand to ensure you never run out. We also have reusable metal filters if you want to reduce waste.
Besides specific AeroPress-related accessories, you will also find a wide range of general coffee equipment, barista equipment, and coffee brewers, including French presses and Hario V60. Frequently asked questions about AeroPress
What is the best way to clean my AeroPress?
Cleaning your AeroPress is incredibly easy. After brewing, unscrew the filter cap and push the plunger all the way through, after which the used coffee puck and paper filter are pushed out into the trash can. Then simply rinse the AeroPress parts under running water and let them air dry. It is not necessary to use soap every time, but once in a while it can be a good idea for a more thorough cleaning.
What grind size should I use for AeroPress?
For AeroPress, a fine to medium-fine grind size is typically recommended. This is finer than filter coffee but coarser than espresso. The exact grind size can be adjusted based on your preferences and the desired brew time. A finer grind gives a shorter brew time and potentially a more intense taste, while a coarser grind gives a longer brew time and a milder taste. We always recommend starting with our recommendations in the brewing guide and then experimenting your way forward.
Can I make espresso with an AeroPress?
The AeroPress can produce a concentrated coffee that resembles espresso, often called "AeroPress Espresso" or "concentrate." It does not have the same pressure as a traditional espresso machine, so it does not deliver a true espresso with crema in the same way. However, it can provide a fantastic starting point for coffee drinks like lattes and cappuccinos, or a strong cup of black coffee. Our coffee specifically for espresso will work excellently in an AeroPress if you want a strong, concentrated cup.
How long does AeroPress coffee stay fresh?
Like all other coffee, AeroPress coffee should be drunk immediately after brewing for the best taste experience. The subtle aromas and flavor notes disappear quickly after brewing. Fortunately, the AeroPress process is so fast and easy that it is easy to always brew a fresh cup.
What is the difference between an AeroPress and a French press?
Although both are manual brewing methods, there are significant differences. A French press uses a coarse grind and lets the coffee steep for a longer time, after which a metal sieve is pressed down, separating the coffee from the grounds. This often results in a full-bodied coffee with some sediment. The AeroPress uses a paper filter (or metal filter), a finer grind, and a shorter brew time under pressure. This provides a cleaner, clearer, and often smoother coffee without micro-particles. You can read more in our guide to French press coffee.
How much does an AeroPress cost?
The price of an AeroPress varies slightly depending on the model and retailer, but it is generally known for being an affordable investment in good coffee. Remember that we offer free shipping on orders over 499 DKK, so it can make good sense to buy coffee or other equipment together with your AeroPress.
