The package contains 100 square and pre-folded filters, which are ready to open and place directly into the brewer.

The FSU-100 fits, among others, the Chemex Classic 6 and 8 cups and provides the characteristically clean and clear cup of coffee that Chemex brewing is known for.

The Natural variant has the paper's natural brown color and is a great alternative to the white FS-100 filters.

Which Chemex models does the FSU-100 fit?

The FSU-100 fits the larger Chemex brewers and can be used with, for example:

• Chemex Classic 6 cups
• Chemex Classic 8 cups
• Larger compatible Chemex models

The filter does not fit the Chemex 3 cups.

If you have a 3-cup model, you should use the smaller FP-2 or FP-2N Half Moon filters instead.

What does FSU-100 mean?

FSU-100 is CHEMEX's product designation for the Natural, square, and pre-folded Bonded filters.

The filters are already folded from the factory.

Therefore, you simply need to open the filter into a cone and place it correctly in the Chemex carafe before adding the ground coffee.

How to place the filter correctly

When the FSU-100 filter is opened, the cone consists of:

three layers of paper on one side
and
one layer of paper on the other side.

Place the side with three layers against the Chemex carafe's pouring spout.

This provides extra stability at the spout and helps prevent the filter from blocking the air channel during brewing.

After this, you can add coffee and begin your pour-over.

What does Natural mean?

The Natural filter has the natural brown color from the filter paper.

CHEMEX states that the Natural filter paper undergoes hot water baths, but not the additional oxygen-based cleaning process used for the white filters.

The paper therefore retains its natural brown color.

CHEMEX does not use bleach in their filter paper.

Natural or white Chemex filter?

Both FSU-100 Natural and FS-100 white are original CHEMEX Bonded filters.

They have the same basic function and are used in the same way during brewing.

The main difference is the treatment and color of the paper.

Why use original Chemex filters?

The CHEMEX Bonded filters are developed as part of the Chemex brewing system itself.

The filter paper is thicker than many ordinary coffee filters and helps hold back fine coffee particles and a portion of the coffee oils during brewing.

This contributes to the clean and clear mouthfeel that Chemex is known for.

Should the Natural filter be rinsed before brewing?

We recommend rinsing the filter with hot water before adding the coffee.

This helps to:

• saturate the filter paper
• make the filter sit correctly in the brewer
• preheat the Chemex carafe

Pour out the rinse water before adding the freshly ground coffee.

Which grind size fits Chemex?

A medium-coarse grind size is a good starting point.

If the water runs very slowly through the filter, you can try a slightly coarser grind.

If the water runs through very quickly, you can try grinding the coffee a bit finer.

The grind size should always be adjusted based on brew time and taste.

A good coffee grinder makes it easier to adjust and repeat the grind size that works best for your coffee.

Can Chemex Natural filters be composted?

Yes.

CHEMEX states that their Bonded paper filters are compostable.

The filter and the coffee grounds can therefore be composted after brewing, if your local waste or composting scheme permits it.

Easy cleanup after brewing

When the coffee has finished brewing, the entire filter with the coffee grounds is lifted directly out of the Chemex carafe.

This means you avoid a separate filter holder or filter basket that needs to be emptied and cleaned.

Rinse the Chemex carafe after use, so it is ready for the next brew.
