Eureka Mignon Zero 55 – Single dose coffee grinder – Black
Produktbeskrivelse
Eureka Mignon Zero 55 – single dose coffee grinder for espresso
The Eureka Mignon Zero 55 is developed for the home barista who wants a precise and simple single dose workflow.
Instead of filling a large bean hopper, you weigh the desired amount of coffee beans before each grind. This makes it easy to work with precise espresso recipes and switch between different coffee beans.
The Mignon Zero combines 55 mm flat hardened steel burrs, Eureka’s stepless micrometric adjustment, Silent Technology, ACE System, and the special Blow Up System to reduce the coffee left behind in the grinder.
This makes it particularly interesting for espresso, where small changes in grind size have a significant impact.
55 mm flat hardened steel burrs
The Eureka Mignon Zero is equipped with 55 mm flat hardened steel burrs.
The 55 mm burrs are combined with a motor at 1,350 rpm.
Eureka states a grinding speed of approximately:
Espresso: 1.8–2.5 g/sec.
Coarser brewing: 2.5–3.5 g/sec.
The actual speed depends, among other things, on the coffee beans and the grind size.
For a standard espresso dose of, for example, 18 grams, this means a relatively fast grinding process without the Mignon Zero being built as a large commercial café grinder.
Stepless micrometric adjustment
One of the most important characteristics of the Eureka Mignon series is the stepless micrometric adjustment.
There are no fixed clicks between grind sizes.
You can therefore make very small changes, which is a great advantage for espresso.
If your shot, for example, runs a little too fast, you can turn the grinder slightly finer.
If it runs too slowly, you adjust it slightly coarser.
You do not need to jump between two fixed positions.
Eureka Mignon Zero for espresso
The Mignon Zero is particularly interesting as an espresso grinder.
A good starting point for dialing in your espresso can be:
18 g coffee in
↓
36 g espresso out
in approximately:
25–35 seconds
If 36 grams of espresso runs through very quickly, you adjust the grinder finer.
If the flow takes a very long time, you adjust coarser.
As you approach the desired extraction, Eureka’s stepless adjustment becomes particularly useful because you can make very small changes.
However, the taste should always be the final assessment – not just the time.
What does single dose mean?
Single dosing means that you weigh one coffee dose at a time.
Example:
18.0 g coffee beans
↓
poured into the grinder
↓
ground
↓
used for one double espresso.
This gives you precise control over how much coffee you use.
Single dosing is also practical if you want to switch between different coffee beans.
You can, for example, use one medium-roast espresso in the morning and another coffee later without first having to empty a large hopper.
45 g single dose hopper
The Mignon Zero has a compact single dose hopper with a capacity of approximately 45 grams of coffee beans.
That is more than sufficient for standard espresso portions.
You can, for example, grind:
18 g for one double espresso
20 g for a larger espresso dose
or
30–40 g for a larger brew.
The small hopper is not intended for storing coffee beans.
The idea is precisely that you only pour in the amount of coffee that is to be ground.
Blow Up System
On top of the single dose hopper sits Eureka’s Blow Up System.
Once the coffee beans have been ground, the bellows mechanism can be activated to push air through the grinder.
The purpose is to help remaining coffee out through the grinding chamber and the outlet.
This is particularly relevant for single dosing.
If you weigh 18 grams of beans in, you naturally want as much as possible of the same coffee to come out again.
The Blow Up system is therefore part of Eureka’s solution to keep retention low.
What is retention?
Retention means coffee that is left inside the grinder after use.
If, for example, you put 18.0 grams of coffee beans in the grinder and do not get the entire amount out again, some of the coffee is located somewhere in the grinding chamber or the outlet.
A little retention is, in practice, found in many coffee grinders.
With a traditional hopper grinder, this does not necessarily mean that much.
With single dosing, however, one typically wants very low retention because each dose is weighed separately.
The Mignon Zero is constructed specifically with this purpose in mind.
ACE System – less static electricity and fewer clumps
The Eureka Mignon Zero also has an ACE System.
ACE stands for:
Anti-Clumps & Electrostaticity
The system is developed to reduce clumping and static electricity in the ground coffee.
Very finely ground espresso can naturally have a tendency towards both clumps and static electricity.
The ACE system works around the coffee outlet to make the dosing more controlled.
This does not necessarily mean that you will never experience static coffee or an occasional clump, but the system is specifically developed to reduce the problem.
Silent Technology
The Mignon Zero is part of Eureka’s noise-insulated Mignon platform and has Silent Technology.
This is relevant in the home, where the coffee grinder often stands directly in the kitchen.
Eureka uses vibration and noise-dampening construction to reduce sound compared to more traditionally mounted grinder systems.
However, I would not use your current wording about a precise 20 dB reduction.
Eureka’s current product page markets Silent Technology but does not specify a particular 20 dB figure on the Mignon Zero specification.
Manual operation
The Mignon Zero has no display, timer, or automatic gram dosing.
That is intentional.
You weigh the coffee beans yourself, pour them into the hopper, and activate the grinder with the switch.
When the dose is ground, you use the Blow Up system as needed.
This provides a very simple workflow:
Weigh beans
→ Grind
→ Blow Up
→ Brew espresso
If you prefer a grinder where a large hopper is kept full and the machine automatically doses by time, another Mignon model is more appropriate.
If, on the other hand, you already weigh your beans, the Zero concept fits very well.
45 g dosing cup
A dosing cup with a capacity of about 45 grams is included.
It is placed under the outlet so the ground coffee is collected directly in the cup.
Afterward, the coffee can be transferred to the portafilter.
This is particularly practical together with a coffee scale:
- Weigh the beans.
- Grind them.
- Check the output if necessary.
- Pour the coffee into the portafilter.
- Distribute and tamp.
- Brew the espresso.
Adjustable All-Purpose Fork
The Mignon Zero is delivered with Eureka’s All-Purpose Adjustable Hands-Free Fork.
The holder can be adjusted and used together with the dosing cup or relevant portafilters.
It provides a more stable placement under the coffee outlet.
If you prefer to grind directly into the dosing cup, that is, however, the most obvious single dose workflow.
Fits Sage?
Yes.
The coffee grinder is not tied to one specific espresso machine or portafilter diameter.
The Mignon Zero can therefore easily be used together with, for example:
Sage Bambino
Sage Bambino Plus
Sage Dual Boiler
and other Sage espresso machines.
The same applies to machines from other manufacturers.
The deciding factor is that you set the grind size to the specific coffee and machine.
54 or 58 mm makes no difference for the grinder itself
The Mignon Zero can be used regardless of whether your machine has, for example:
54 mm portafilter
or
58 mm portafilter.
The grinder grinds the coffee independently of the filter basket’s diameter.
It is the dose and the filter basket’s capacity that you must adjust.
If you, for example, have a basket intended for 18 grams of coffee, you can weigh approximately 18 grams of beans and then fine-tune the recipe.
Eureka Mignon Zero for filter coffee?
Here I would be a little more cautious than on your general Electric coffee grinders page.
The regular Mignon Zero 55 is primarily very interesting for espresso and single dosing.
Eureka simultaneously produces a separate Mignon Zero Brew, which specifically uses burr geometry developed for filter coffee.
That does not mean that the standard Zero physically can only grind espresso.
But if you exclusively buy a grinder for V60, Chemex, and other filter coffee, I would choose a model that is developed specifically for this purpose.
If espresso is your primary focus, the regular Mignon Zero fits much better.
Eureka Mignon Zero vs. Varia VS3 Gen 2
Both are single dose coffee grinders, but the construction is very different.
Eureka Mignon Zero
55 mm flat burrs
1,350 rpm
320 W
Stepless micrometric adjustment
Blow Up System
ACE System
Silent Technology
5.6 kg
Varia VS3 Gen 2
48 mm conical burr set
170 rpm under load
100 W
Stepless adjustment
Bellows and RDT
Very narrow construction
3.5 kg
If you want the classic Eureka Mignon platform with flat burrs and a strong espresso focus, the Zero is very interesting.
If you prefer a very narrow grinder with conical burrs and the possibility of different burr upgrades, the VS3 has a different approach.
Eureka Mignon Zero vs. Fellow Opus
The Fellow Opus is more clearly positioned as a broad all-round grinder from espresso to cold brew.
The Mignon Zero is more specialized around single dose and espresso.
The Opus has fixed macro settings combined with an internal micro-adjustment.
Eureka, on the other hand, has stepless micrometric regulation.
If espresso is the main priority, Eureka’s system is attractive.
If you switch a lot between, for example, espresso, V60, and French press, Fellow’s numbered all-round system is easier to navigate quickly.
Eureka Mignon Zero vs. Mignon Specialità
The Mignon Zero and Specialità share several elements from the Eureka Mignon series, but the work method is different.
Mignon Zero
Single dose
45 g hopper
Blow Up System
No timer dosing
Manual operation
Suitable for you who weigh each dose.
Mignon Specialità
Traditional hopper
Electronic timed dosing
Touch display
Suitable for you who want to have beans standing in the hopper and grind directly after a time setting.
It is, therefore, not necessarily a question of which grinder is “best”.
It is about how you wish to work.
Eureka Mignon Zero or Mignon Zero Brew?
The names look similar, but there is an important difference.
Mignon Zero 55 is the model you see here.
Mignon Zero Brew is a separate model with 55 mm burrs with brew geometry, developed specifically with filter coffee in mind.
The two product pages should therefore not be mixed up.
If espresso is the goal, it is the regular Mignon Zero that is most relevant.
320 W motor
The Mignon Zero has a power of 320 W.
Your current page writes 310–320 W.
I would use the precise official figure:
320 W
Eureka simultaneously specifies the motor speed at 1,350 rpm.
Compact dimensions
The Mignon Zero is relatively compact in width.
The official dimensions are:
Height: 345 mm
Width: 120 mm
Depth: 140 mm
That corresponds to approximately:
34.5 × 12 × 14 cm
The narrow width makes it suitable for coffee corners where you do not want the grinder to take up a large part of the countertop.
Weight of 5.6 kg
Eureka specifies the weight at 5.6 kg.
That is significantly heavier than, for example, Fellow Opus and Varia VS3.
The relatively solid weight simultaneously helps the grinder to stand stably during use and adjustment.
How do you set the Eureka Mignon Zero?
Start with the coffee and espresso recipe you normally use.
Example:
18 g coffee
↓
36 g espresso
↓
approximately 25–35 seconds
If the coffee runs too fast:
→ Turn finer.
If it runs too slowly:
→ Turn coarser.
Make small changes.
Eureka’s adjustment system is very sensitive, so you do not need to turn the knob wildly between each attempt.
Should the grinder be running when adjusting finer?
If there are coffee beans or ground coffee between the burrs, one should generally avoid forcing the burrs closer together against resistance.
For larger adjustments toward a finer grind, it is therefore good practice to let the grinder run or ensure the grinding chamber is empty.
Follow the official Eureka manual for calibration and major adjustments.
Small, normal espresso adjustments can then be made systematically during dial-in.
How to use the Blow Up system
Once the weighed dose has been ground:
Wait a moment for the grinding to finish.
Then activate the bellows on the hopper with controlled presses.
The air movement helps coffee that is located around the grinding chamber and outlet move further down into the dosing cup.
The purpose is not to pump violently.
It is merely to help reduce the coffee that would otherwise remain.
Cleaning the Eureka Mignon Zero
Coffee leaves behind both fine particles and oils in the grinder.
How often cleaning is necessary depends on:
how much coffee you grind
the roast degree
and which coffee you use.
Very dark and oily coffee beans may require more frequent cleaning.
Clean the hopper, dosing cup, and the area around the outlet as needed.
When cleaning the burrs themselves and the grinding chamber, you should follow Eureka’s instructions.
Avoid water on the burrs, motor, and electrical parts.
