How much coffee does the Venus 4 cups make?
Bialetti Venus 4 cups yields approximately 170 ml of brewed coffee.
The designation 4 cups does not mean four standard coffee mugs. Bialetti's size specification is based on small servings of moka pot coffee.
The 4-cup model is therefore a good fit if you:
- brew a smaller portion for one or two people
- want more coffee than from the Venus 2 cups
- want to use the coffee as a base for one or more milk-based drinks
- want a compact moka pot for induction
Can the Venus 4 cups copper be used on induction?
Yes.
Bialetti Venus 4 cups is suitable for induction cooktops.
The base diameter is approximately 9.5 cm, and induction stoves may have different requirements regarding the minimum diameter they can detect.
Please check your stove's user manual if you are in doubt about how small a cooking surface your induction hob supports.
The smaller Venus 2 cups, however, is not designed for induction.
Copper-colored PVD coating
The characteristic copper color is not traditional paint.
Bialetti uses a PVD process, where a very thin metallic layer is bonded to the surface of the stainless steel.
This gives the Venus an elegant metallic look and a durable surface.
To best protect the finish, the pot should be washed by hand and should not be put in the dishwasher.
Does Bialetti Venus brew real espresso?
Although a moka pot is often called an espresso maker, the Venus does not brew traditional espresso like an espresso machine.
When water is heated in the bottom container, pressure builds up, which forces the water through the ground coffee and into the top container.
The result is an intense and concentrated coffee, but it is brewed at a lower pressure than classic espresso.
If you would like help with dosing, grind size, and brewing technique, you can read our guide to coffee with moka pots and espresso makers.
What grind size should be used?
A medium-fine grind size is a good starting point.
The coffee should be:
- finer than regular filter coffee
- coarser than traditional espresso
- gritty rather than powder-fine
Fill the filter basket loosely and evenly with coffee.
The coffee should not be tamped.
If the brewing process is very slow, or the coffee becomes bitter, you can try a slightly coarser grind.
If the result is thin, you can try a slightly finer grind.
A good coffee grinder makes it easier to adjust and repeat the grind size.
How to use Bialetti Venus 4 cups
1. Fill the bottom container with water
Fill with water to just below the safety valve.
2. Insert the filter basket
Place the filter basket into the bottom container.
3. Add coffee
Fill the basket loosely with medium-fine ground coffee without tamping.
4. Screw the pot together
Screw the top and bottom parts securely together.
Avoid using the handle as a grip when tightening or loosening the pot.
5. Place the Venus on the stove
Use low to medium heat.
On gas, the flame should not extend up the sides of the pot.
6. Remove the pot from the heat
When the coffee has risen to the top container, remove the moka pot from the heat.
Avoid letting the coffee boil or sputter for longer than necessary.
Which coffee beans are suitable for the Venus?
You can use different roast levels in a moka pot.
Medium-roast coffee beans are a good all-around choice if you want a balance between sweetness, body, and the coffee's character.
If you prefer a stronger and more classic flavor profile, you can try dark-roast coffee beans.
You can also experiment with lighter roasts if you want more acidity and clearer fruity flavor notes.
Venus 2 or 4 cups copper?
There are two significant differences:
Venus 2 cups copper
- approx. 85 ml
- base diameter approx. 8 cm
- not suitable for induction
Venus 4 cups copper
- approx. 170 ml
- base diameter approx. 9.5 cm
- suitable for induction
If you have an induction stove, the 4-cup model is therefore the smallest copper-colored Venus you should choose.
Cleaning the Venus copper
Let the pot cool down after brewing.
Unscrew the parts, remove the coffee grounds, and wash the parts in warm water.
Venus copper should not be washed in a dishwasher.
The harsh detergents in dishwashers can damage the colored PVD surface.
Let the parts dry completely before reassembling the moka pot.
Check regularly:
- the gasket
- the filter
- the safety valve
- the coffee outlet in the top container
Before first use
Wash all parts in warm water before using the Venus for the first time.
Bialetti also recommends that the first three brews are discarded before the pot is used for coffee that is to be drunk.
