How much coffee does the Venus 6-cup make?
The Bialetti Venus 6-cup yields approximately 235 ml of brewed coffee.
The term 6 cups does not mean six regular coffee mugs. Bialetti uses small moka pot/espresso cups as a size reference.
The 6-cup model is a great fit if you:
- brew for several people
- want a larger serving than the Venus 4-cup
- use moka pot coffee as a base for multiple milk-based drinks
- want an induction-compatible Venus with a larger base
Can the Venus 6-cup copper be used on induction?
Yes.
The Bialetti Venus 6-cup copper is suitable for induction.
The base diameter is approximately 10.5 cm.
However, induction stovetops may have different requirements regarding the minimum diameter of cookware. Therefore, check the manual for your induction stove if you are in doubt about compatibility.
Copper look with PVD coating
The copper-colored Venus is made of stainless steel.
The color comes from a PVD treatment – Physical Vapour Deposition – where a very thin metallic layer is bonded to the surface.
This gives the pot its characteristic metallic copper look and a durable surface.
To best protect the finish, the pot should be washed by hand and not placed in the dishwasher.
Venus 4 or 6-cup copper?
Both models can be used on induction, but they are suitable for different serving sizes.
Venus 4-cup copper
- approx. 170 ml
- base diameter approx. 9.5 cm
- compact size
Venus 6-cup copper
- approx. 235 ml
- base diameter approx. 10.5 cm
- larger portion
- good for several people or more coffee drinks
If your induction stove has difficulty detecting smaller cookware, the larger base of the 6-cup model can also be an advantage.
Does the Bialetti Venus brew real espresso?
Although a moka pot is often called an espresso maker, the Bialetti Venus does not brew traditional espresso like an espresso machine.
When water is heated in the bottom container, pressure builds, forcing the water through the ground coffee and up into the top container.
The result is an intense and concentrated coffee, but the brewing takes place at a lower pressure than classic espresso.
If you want to work with dosage, grind size, and brewing technique, you can read our guide to coffee with a moka pot and espresso maker.
What grind size should be used?
A medium-fine grind is a good starting point.
The coffee should be:
- finer than regular filter coffee
- coarser than traditional espresso
- gritty rather than powdery fine
Fill the filter basket loosely and evenly with coffee.
The coffee should not be tamped.
If the brewing process is very slow or the coffee becomes bitter, you can try a slightly coarser grind.
If the result is thin, you can try a slightly finer one.
A good coffee grinder makes it easier to adjust and repeat your grind size.
How to use the Bialetti Venus 6-cup
1. Fill the bottom container with water
Fill with water to just below the safety valve.
2. Insert the filter basket
Place the filter basket into the bottom container.
3. Add coffee
Fill the basket loosely with medium-fine ground coffee.
The coffee should not be tamped.
4. Screw the moka pot together
Screw the top and bottom parts together securely.
Avoid using the handle as leverage when tightening or loosening the pot.
5. Place the Venus on the stove
Use low to medium heat.
On gas, the flame should not extend up the sides of the pot.
6. Remove the pot from the heat
Once the coffee has risen to the top container, remove the moka pot from the heat.
Avoid letting the coffee boil or sputter for too long.
What coffee beans are suitable for the Venus?
You can use different roast levels in a moka pot.
Medium-roast coffee beans are a great all-around choice if you want a balance between sweetness, body, and the coffee's character.
If you prefer a stronger and more classic flavor profile, you can try dark-roast coffee beans.
Lighter roasts can also be used if you prefer more acidity and distinct fruity notes.
Cleaning the Venus copper
Let the moka pot cool down after brewing.
Unscrew the parts, remove the coffee grounds, and wash the parts in warm water.
The Venus copper should not be washed in a dishwasher.
The harsh detergents in a dishwasher can damage the copper-colored PVD coating.
Let the parts dry completely before reassembling the moka pot.
Periodically check:
- the gasket
- the filter
- the safety valve
- the coffee outlet in the top container
Before first use
Wash all parts in warm water before using the Venus for the first time.
Bialetti also recommends that the first three brews be discarded before using the moka pot for coffee you intend to drink.
